Black Bear Hunting -
Wild Hunt -
MI License Required
The State of Michigan has black bear hunts in the fall. There are three (3) seasons available to hunt.
The 1st hunt season starts early September, the 2nd season starts mid
September and 3rd season starts late September. These hunts last into
October with each having different closing dates.
Applications for the black bear license is in the beginning of May.
When applying for the tag, you have to choose your season and zone (area) to hunt.
Superior Game Ranch has land available in:
• Carney (zone)
• Gwinn (zone)
This application process is a lottery drawing with one point given for each year you did not receive a tag (license).

The average MI black bear is about 150 to 200 pounds. Superior Game Ranch has taken bears from 150 to over 575 pounds.
The skull size is what determines a trophy bear. We have taken black bears up to
21-8/16" in skull size. |

For
each of the 3 seasons, different amount of tags are available.
Notification of your results are mailed to you with the amount of
points you've aquired. If you are a successful in the drawing to
receive a tag, the license can be purchased over-the-counter.
